Deputy Steven “Brett” Hawkins suffered a fatal heart attack following a call involving a search. He passed under care at Harrison County Community Hospital, in Bethany. He was 34.
Deputy Harkins had served with the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office for three years. He had previously served with the Bethany Police Department and Clinton County Sheriff’s Office.
Hawkins was the Harrison County D.A.R.E. Officer and was responsible for teaching Dare to students in all of the schools in the county.
He is survived by his wife, daughter, three sons, mother, and three siblings.
Funeral services: 2 p.m. Friday, September 18, at Immanuel Baptist Church, Bethany.
Burial will follow in Miriam Cemetery, Bethany.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, at Roberson Funeral Home, Bethany, where friends may call after 12 p.m.
